marti fann artist statement

Marti Fann, a native of northwest Pennsylvania has resided in Chesterfield, Virginia for the last 23 years. Marti has lived and traveled in the southwest, living in Tucson, Arizona for 10 years. She studied with local artists in the southwest and continued to attend workshops with nationally known artists over the past 15 years. Her work has changed and grown over the years winning awards and honors. marti

She has a studio at the Petersburg Regional Art Center where you may view her work. Studio 210 is open by appointment and every second Friday of any month for the PRAC All Media Show opening. PRAC is located at 132 N Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. Marti is represented by 1212 Gallery, 12 East 12th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23224.

Marti has been a past president of the Bon Air Artists Association and was chairperson for five years of the Arts on the Lawn fine art show which was later renamed Art Affair. Recently Marti helped found the Chester Artists Association and is the current president. This association is working to help build the Chesterfield Center for the Arts.

I have always loved the creative process. I want the painting to evolve from a clean white surface to a well-designed painting. I started painting what I saw, flowers, landscapes and etc. But I wanted to put more of myself into my work. I took workshops with artists that told me to push myself – to paint what I felt. From those workshops I took away a new way of looking at everything. My primary purpose of painting is to evoke feelings and emotions. I want to do this though texture, color, shape and good design. If I am successful you can let yourself go and let the energy and spirit of the painting carry you on an exciting journey.
